BC police seize 73 kilos of cocaine from a vehicle near Revelstoke

British Columbia Highway Patrol police have arrested a 28-year-old man after 73 kilos of cocaine were reportedly found in a vehicle near the resort town of Revelstoke.

The Surrey suspect was the sole occupant of the vehicle when it was stopped on Oct. 8 on the Trans-Canada Highway, about 50 kilometers east of the city, according to a news release from the BC Highway Patrol on Monday.

The driver was arrested and released on conditions pending a court appearance.

Investigators say the driver will not be identified until charges against him are approved.

“The preliminary investigation would show that this has all the hallmarks of organized crime,” said Insp. Lori Orstad of the BC Highway Patrol said in the release.

“This is a very large amount of drugs, so definitely expect an impact on the illegal drug trade in the province.”

The man’s car has been seized by police and the investigation is still ongoing, police said.
