Actor Jay Johnston sentenced to one year in prison on January 6

Actor told U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols that participating in the attack on the Capitol was a “terrible mistake.”

Former Bob’s Burgers actor Jay Johnston was sentenced to one year and one day in prison for participating in the January 62021, attack on the US Capitol.

Johnston pleaded guilty in July after his charged with felony obstruction of officers during civil unrest, unlawful entry into restricted buildings or grounds, and obstructing passage through Capitol grounds. He told U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols that participating in the attack on the Capitol was a “horrendous mistake,” with the judge describing his actions as both “problematic” and “reprehensible.”

In March 2021, the FBI came two posted an image on X with the caption: “The #FBI is still seeking information on people who participated in the violence at the US Capitol on January 6. If you know this person (…), please refer to photo 247 in your tip.” The photos were confirmed to be of Johnston, who was arrested in Los Angeles in June 2023.

Authorities claimed that at the Capitol, Johnston had “resisted police and assisted other rioters at an entrance to the U.S. Capitol known as ‘the tunnel,'” and had “assisted other rioters in surrendering U.S. Capitol Police shields ‘ which they would have found miserable according to the law. The police are trying to prevent them from entering the building. Johnston was later seen carrying such a shield in what the FBI called “a gang attack on officers defending an entrance to the Capitol.”

Johnston was fired from his voice acting role as Jimmy Pesto Bob’s Burgers in December 2021. Johnston previously wrote further Mr. Toon and entered Arrested development as Officer Taylor.
