Suspect still at large after armed robbery at Smug’s Pizza, officers search for clues

The North Coast News spoke with a staff member to find out more about therobbery that occurred at Smug’s Pizza in McKinnleyville on Thursday, October 24.

Employee Isaac Mashy said the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded after an employee called and said the suspect came in with a knife, demanded the register be open and stole money before running off.

The exact amount withdrawn from the cash register is not yet known.

According to the HCSO, the suspect is described as a Hispanic male with dark skin and brown eyes. They said the suspect was wearing a black balaclava, a red and black plaid hooded sweatshirt and pants during the robbery.

“I think we handled it pretty well because that’s what our boss told us to do if there’s ever someone who tries to take money, that our lives are more important than the money and he’d rather see us safe” , Mashy said.
