Were Richard and Dan real FBI agents?

Netflix’s ‘The Manhattan Alien Abduction’ chronicles the complex story of Linda Napolitano, who claimed to have been taken by aliens in 1989. It essentially follows all her claims about the incident and its equally baffling aftermath, in an attempt to discover whether it was all an elaborate hoax or actual evidence of alien life. Therefore, her statements about two men named Richard and Dan, who identified themselves to her as police officers before allegedly stalking her, are also an ordeal in themselves.

Shortly after Linda went public with her story about being allegedly taken from the window of her 12-story apartment by aliens, there was a sudden knock on her door. It was 15 minutes before 10 a.m., and she vividly remembers two men identifying themselves as police officers, Richard and Dan, asking her to open the door because they had questions. According to Linda, they barged in and immediately started asking her numerous things about what she had experienced on the fateful night of November 30, 1989.

However, according to Linda’s own accounts, Dan soon became emotional and got in her face as if claiming she was in cahoots with aliens before Richard calmed him down. She vividly remembers that they ended the interview soon after and walked away, with the latter pushing the former against a wall in the hallway of her building and scolding him for his behavior. Little did she know that her subsequent efforts to find these agents would be in vain as the ufologist and her friend Budd Hopkins would soon receive a letter from them.

In this letter, Richard and Dan, according to the aforementioned show, claimed that they were in the security detail of a high-ranking diplomat before claiming that they had all witnessed Linda’s alleged floating kidnapping. Apparently they then told the latter that they were interested in the situation as they believed there must be a reason why they witnessed what they thought they witnessed, but to no avail. What’s worse is that Linda quickly became paranoid and felt like she was being followed just to see Richard or Dan near her house a few times.

According to Linda’s statements, although she was so paranoid that she even started wearing wires constantly in an attempt to feel safe, it turned out that she really needed it. That’s because, she says, Richard and Dan actually kidnapped her one night in April 1991 by forcing her into their car and interrogating her again for hours. This time, however, they were very clear that they believed she knew more about their plans than she was letting on, and they even made her take off her shoes to prove that she herself was not an alien.

Fortunately, Linda managed to escape, but the feeling that she was being stalked never really went away. Then, in October 1991, Dan allegedly kidnapped her alone and took her to a beach house all the way on Long Island. According to her statements, he then ordered her to put on a white nightgown, like the one she had worn on the fateful night, and when she refused, he tried to force himself on her. Fortunately, she managed to escape again and flee, and that was the last time she ever saw Richard and/or Dan in person, according to her statements.

As for the political diplomat whose security they allegedly knew about, he had sent Budd Hopkins a request to halt his investigation in an attempt to let things progress naturally, but he refused. It has since been claimed that they believed the aliens’ grand plan was to obtain our reproductive information for their own analysis or to get our attention and push us towards sustainability, but nothing has ever been proven. That’s because it was never confirmed whether Linda was actually kidnapped or not, by aliens or by Richard and Dan. Since they reportedly never appeared in the presence of Linda or anyone else again, it is likely that they were not bodyguards or FBI agents at all.
