Gengar follows the Kanto starters as the fourth Gigantamax form to debut in Pokemon Go, arriving alongside the second chapter of the mobile game’s Halloween event in 2024.

Except for Groundwhich is better suited as a defensive typing, these are all fantastic offensive types and, as luck would have it, readily available among the Pokemon that can currently Dynamax Pokémon Go.

To remind, only Dynamax Pokemon are eligible to participate in Max Battlesso keep that in mind before building your team.

Conversely, G-Max Gengar has no less six resistorsto take reduced damage from Fairy, Bug, Fighting, Normal, Grass, and Poison moves.

Naturally, bulky walls like Metagross and Blastoise are the best choice here for longevity, but if you want to go all out on the offensive, Gengar and Cinderace will be top choices. Be careful with the first one, that you and the enemy G-Max will be weak to each other!

Like the pool of available Dynamax Pokemon increases, the best teams to tackle G-Max Gengar when it returns in the future will change, but for now the above represents your best chances of taking out the difficult customer effectively and efficiently.

How to Get Gigantamax Gengar – Max Battles Explained

The only way to get Gigantamax Gengar currently is via participate in Max Battles. The G-Max variant of Gen 1’s only Ghost-type line debuted in the second part of Pokemon Go’s 2024 Halloween Event, runs from October 31 to November 3, 2024 at 8:00 PM local time.

Unlike normal raids, Max Battles are personal meetingsmeaning Remote Raid passes cannot be used. Instead of spawning in standard Gyms, Gigantamax and Dynamax Raids do limited to Power Spots.

A maximum of four people can participate in one Maximum battlewhere each trainer can bring a team of three members. Additionally, as you and your group grapple with the Max Battle boss, up to 40 players, divided into groups of four or less, can join the battle.

Max Particles are required to participate in a Max Battle and wants can only be consumed upon completion of the heist.

Can Gigantamax Gengar be shiny in Pokemon Go?

Yes, the Shiny variant of Gigantamax Gengar has a chance to appear after it is defeated in a Max Battle.

The chances of a Shiny Gigantamax Pokemon appearing are not yet known.

Gigantamax Gengar Movepool

It’s not the most versatile movepool, but G-Max Gengar’s STAB choice is excellent. Although the stats are not yet known, Shadow Claw and Shadow Punch will likely be the best choices for the Fast Move, with the choice for Charge Move being less straightforward.

You can double STAB with Shadow Ball and Dark Pulse, or opt for better coverage To fight-type Focus Blast instead. Psychic is another option, although this is a legacy of Gengar and can only be learned through EliteTM.
