Suspect runs into telephone pole while allegedly trying to escape a drug bust in Spring Hill

A suspect found with a significant amount of drugs during a traffic stop in Spring Hill came across a phone while trying to evade arrest, officers said.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) stated that detectives from their Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop in the Toucan Trail area on October 18.

Detectives reported that during the stop they observed a rolled cigar containing suspected marijuana.

According to HCSO, the driver, 39-year-old Scott Schwirian, and a front passenger, 36-year-old Heidi Reynolds, were removed from the vehicle.

When detectives attempted to detain Schwirian, he fled on foot but soon collided with a telephone pole and was apprehended.

The report states that during a search of the car, detectives found a pill bottle labeled “Xanax,” which contained eleven different Alprazolam pills, as well as two bags of residue that later tested positive for fentanyl.

Officials said a thorough search of the vehicle revealed three syringes filled with a clear liquid under the driver’s seat, which later tested positive for methamphetamine, along with four more marijuana cigarettes. Detectives also discovered a blue backpack containing a locked brown safe.

On October 25, HCSO obtained a search warrant for the safe. Inside, they reported finding multiple used syringes, new plastic baggies, cut straws with residue, a digital scale, two bags of marijuana and six baggies containing 40.5 grams of a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Reynolds has been charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence.

Schwirian has been charged with resisting an officer with violence, possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, possession of Alprazolam and possession of marijuana.
