Jamie Carragher’s son James signs a new contract with Wigan

The Liverpool legend’s son has agreed new terms after establishing himself as a first-team regular

James, the son of former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher, has extended his contract with Sky Bet League One club Wigan until 2027. Carragher junior, 21, has established himself in the Latics first team this season, making 13 appearances all competitions.

The club said: “We are pleased to announce that James Carragher has extended his contract with Wigan Athletic.”


“Carragher has committed to an extended term at the Brick Community Stadium until at least the summer of 2027, with the new contract marking his excellent start to the 2024-2025 Sky Bet League One season.”

Carragher joined Wigan from Liverpool’s youth academy at the age of 14 and has had loan spells at Oldham and Inverness.


Latics boss Shaun Maloney added: “I am very pleased with James’ development and he fully deserves his contract extension.”

“It has been a brilliant breakthrough season for him so far and James is a young player with fantastic potential.”
