Steve Smith rips Bryce Young in film analysis of Broncos loss

Bryce Young returned to the field in Week 8 in an eventual loss to the Denver Broncos. Former Carolina Panthers legend Steve Smith cut off the film of his play. On one play in particular, Smith saw something particularly bad from the second-year quarterback and he didn’t mince words.

The overall play for Bryce Young was quite up and down. He started and finished excellently, making plays he never would have made in his first two starts this season. However, he struggled a bit in the middle. Steve Smith identified one play in particular that was a glaring error by Young.

“Come on, brother. Look! He stops throwing. The game is meant to go left! Throw the ball, brother. Throw the football.”

Smith highlighted one play where the blocking and routes all went left. Young faked a throw to Chuba Hubbard on a screen. An untouched, likely intentional, blitzer came toward Young, and instead of going with the play, he scrambled to his right. There were no receivers there and he had to throw the ball away.

Smith acknowledged that the 2023 Carolina Panthers confused Young. He said at the beginning that Young shouldn’t have started and that Frank Reich did a bad job, but what’s done is done. It’s about the now, and Smith doesn’t want to see these kinds of mistakes from Young.
