The Cowboys ideal trade target is predicted to move and Jerry Jones needs to act quickly

Complacency is a great way to pass you by. Instead of winning the game, the Dallas Cowboys have made it an art form to win the press conference. Is there anyone on this team who could even read the last time they went to the…? Super Bowl in 1995-96? Any way you look at it, Dallas needs to do something, anything heading into the trade deadline. Unfortunately, Jerry Jones still owns this franchise.

Mike Jones of The Athletic ($) outlined a series of players that could possibly be moved between now and next Tuesday. One such player is Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne. While he has played a prominent role for the Jaguars in the past, they have made a significant move on Tank Bigsby this season. Jacksonville isn’t going anywhere, but the Cowboys aren’t doing much better.

When we look at the Cowboys’ backroom, it’s a lot of yesterday’s star players. Yes, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn are theoretically in the middle of their prime, but Dalvin Cook and Ezekiel Elliott are yesterday’s news. Not to say Etienne has the longest shelf life, as he was used quite extensively in the lead role at Clemson. However, he can be a difference maker in a postseason push.

While we’ve had more trading activity in recent days, I sincerely doubt Jones will take any action.

What I keep coming back to is: what’s the point of this season for the Cowboys? Mike McCarthy serves as head coach in the final year of his contract. He may not be the long-term solution this team needs, but no one deserves to coach under that kind of pressure. With a huge road game at the Atlanta Falcons this week, Dallas cannot afford to lose the head-to-head matchup.

Etienne could potentially provide the necessary boost the Cowboys need out of the backfield to take on Dak Prescott’s pressure. At the same time, Prescott had been paid more money than God to be a difference maker at quarterback. He has rarely shown the ability to take and carry the team on his back. You have to wonder if Jones has just accepted that he will never hoist a Lombardi again.

Regardless of how you feel about the Cowboys’ current ownership situation, you still have to sympathize with their fans a little. It is the largest fan base in the league, but the organization’s ongoing dysfunction has left a hole in the fabric of the American team’s identity. Kids have eyes and might prefer to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play because Patrick Mahomes only makes big wins.

Etienne could improve the Cowboys, but the Jaguars aren’t going to sell him cheap either.
