Federal prosecutors unveil more racketeering charges against street gang members

Federal prosecutors will unveil a new set of racketeering charges against street gang members on Wednesday.

U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Andrew Luger is expected to unveil the charges at a news conference alongside federal, state and local officials at the federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis.

Wednesday’s indictment is a continuation of a strategy by Luger’s office crack down on street gangs by prosecuting them as organized crime syndicates.

Last May, an indictment against 45 suspects It was the first time Luger used the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act – better known as RICO – against street gangs in Minneapolis. With additional rounds of indictments Over the past year and a half, almost ninety suspects with ties to gangs have been charged.

To date, 17 Bloods members and associates have pleaded guilty or done so convicted during the trialThis is reported by the American Public Prosecution Service.
