BBC Radio 1’s Rickie, Melvin and Charlie today announced that legendary British band The Zutons will close Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month 2024 on Wednesday 30 October with an extra special performance of Amy Winehouse’s award-winning song Back To Black and their iconic hit Valerie, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Live Lounge.

In 2007, Amy Winehouse played Valerie on the Radio 1 Live Lounge and it became one of her best-known songs, and in August it was voted the number one Radio 1 Live Lounge cover of all time. The Zutons are back in the Live Lounge to give back.

The Zutons say: “We were blown away when we heard that Amy’s brilliant version of Valerie was voted the number one Live Lounge cover of all time, but she was such an amazing artist with that incredible voice that it shouldn’t really be a surprise are. not at all. It’s a real honor and fills us with pride, and the fact that we’ll be doing a cover of her on Radio 1 is like a full circle moment. Hopefully we can do it justice!”

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, said: “Amy Winehouse’s unforgettable cover of ‘Valerie’ remains one of the most loved Live Lounge performances of all time, so to have The Zutons close out Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month 2024, on this special 25th anniversary year feels like the perfect tribute to the legacy of the Live Lounge – a place where iconic music moments are created and celebrated.”

The Zutons’ Live Lounge performance can be heard on Wednesday, October 30 at 12pm on Radio 1 and BBC Sounds and can be viewed on-demand on Radio 1’s BBC iPlayer and YouTube channels.

The special performance caps off a huge month of live music on Radio 1, with some of the world’s most popular acts taking to the world-famous stage, including: Camila Cabello, FINNEAS, JADE, Fontaines DC and many more.
