Homeowner receives praise after describing his major lawn renovation online: ‘This is amazing’

It’s one thing to talk about installing one native lawnand quite another to not only do it, but also to document the process so that other people know what it looks like.

One Redditor did just that by posting photos of the process of changing their lawn from regular grass to buffalo grass, a more natural alternative on their site. She detailed the process in a comment below the photos, explaining why they chose the type of grass and explaining the process and the photos in more depth.

"I'm really looking forward to going this route too."

Planting buffalo grass is just one way to do that switch to a natural lawn. Other alternatives include clover, if you want to plant something that resembles grass, or xeriscaping and natural plants if you prefer a different look. If you choose grass, you should start by finding a grass that is native to your specific area. Although some grasses are common in many areas, most are not locally present in every location.

The Kentucky Native plant Society notes that natural grasses are a number of benefits. They are often stronger and can withstand temperature fluctuations and both dry and wet periods without needing a lot of extra care, such as watering and fertilizing, unlike other grasses. When you get rain or water your lawn, they are designed to prevent water runoff so that the water is used instead of wasted.

Natural plants also tend to attract natural wildlife, including pollinators like birds, beesand more. The US Forest Service explains this pollinators are important because they help us grow more crops and produce crops that taste better. When we have more food, it’s easier for everyone to get what they need and people are less likely to go hungry.

Other Redditors agreed that the lawn posted was amazing. “This is amazing,” said one user said. Another user added“I love this!!! Thanks for sharing so many details. I’m really tempted to go this route too.”

Another person shared“A lawn I actually don’t hate! Jokes aside, this looks really good, I could sell my hard-to-please dad on this if it were native here.”
