KCPD investigating shooting near E. 34th and Garfield

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred near E. 34th Street and Garfield Avenue.

Just before 8:15 p.m. Thursday, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department received a report of a shooting. Just before 9pm, police confirmed the attack was fatal and said the investigation was ongoing.

The shooting location is just east of the 71 Freeway.

Police said they were initially called to the area for a shooting spotter activation. While officers were en route, another shooting call came in from the same area.

When police arrived at the scene, emergency personnel were helping a woman with apparent gunshot trauma out of the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in the area where he died.

The preliminary investigation revealed that gunshots from outside the vehicle hit the woman inside.

Police said there was no one in custody or anyone of interest as of 10pm on Thursday.
