Dark Mofo will return in full force in 2025

Hobarthere we come! Tasmania’s dark, debauched festival Dark Mofo announced today that it will make a grand return in 2025, after taking a break this year for a period of renewal. From June 5 to 15, the Midwinter Solstice Festival will unleash a glorious whirlwind of artistic chaos, with a multi-sensory program of art, music and rituals.

Despite running a more limited program in 2024, Dark Mofo could not let go of his infamous program Nude solstice swimming – which saw a record 3,000 people plunge into the icy waters of the River Derwent, wearing only red caps. The stripped-down swim will of course return (a week after the festival ends on June 21) for the 11th edition of Dark Mofo, along with the Winter Feast, Ogoh-Ogoh and Night Mass rituals.

To celebrate his long-awaited comeback, Dark Mofo is releasing a limited number of tickets for its signature event, Night Mass. This late-night extravaganza will transform every corner of the city – including the chaotic home of Dark Mofo on the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) into a vibrant tapestry of immersive art installations and mysterious musical performances. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, November 5 for those who have pre-registered via the Dark Mofo website. Stay tuned for full program details of Dark Mofo 2025 to be announced next year.
