‘No shame!’ – ‘Horrible and disgusting’ Halloween thieves strike in Shropshire to spoil trick or treating fun

Several irate residents have posted photos of empty bowls and Ring Doorbell images of sweethearts on the community’s social media pages, furious that the festivities have been spoiled for local youth, all dressed in their spooky costumes and looking forward to an evening of fun.

Marcus Watkin posted in the Greenfields Community Facebook page in Shrewsburysaying, “I wouldn’t put out all your goodies at once tonight. There are several groups that drive around and clean out people’s candy bins. Absolutely no shame, adults too, not just the kids who do it.”

In the Ellesmere community groupwrote Gail Nixon, “To the teens who stole the full container of candy left for the trick or treaters: you ruined it for the little ones. And besides, you’re on camera. Do the right thing and bring them back.”

A Hanwood resident also posted doorbell footage of a young man in a Givenchy sweater emptying an entire bowl of sweets into a backpack and brazenly walking away. The resident wrote on a Facebook group in Shrewsbury: “Robbing this person in Hanwood of all the sweets outside my house. I’d like to know who it is.”

Several other social media users were disgusted, saying: “What a filthy lowlife,” “son of a bitch,” and “how awful!”

Other Halloween horrors included youngsters smashing pumpkins in Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, according to a member of the Meole Village Community Group.

West Mercia Police said in advance that they would be present more often throughout the evening.

Chief Inspector Brian Gibbs said: “As always, we will have an increased police presence throughout the evening on Halloween, with officers carrying out high-visibility patrols in key areas to ensure those out and about can enjoy Halloween safely.” has any concerns whilst trick or treating, whether it is anti-social or suspicious behaviour, I would encourage them to report it to us via our website Report a crime.
