Hadapsar residents urge candidates to address water, road and drainage issues

Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls on November 20, The Free Press Journal is reporting extensively from all eight constituencies in Pune City. Starting from Hadapsar Assembly seat, this newspaper has started its journey from today. Here the people have indicated that they will vote for the candidate who promises to meet their basic needs. They raised their voices over inadequate infrastructure and public services and urged candidates to prioritize their needs.

Nitin Gavade, a political activist, said, “It has been several times since Hadapsar came under the PMC. But people still suffer from a lack of basic infrastructure such as water supply, roads and proper drainage channels. The existing channels in the jurisdiction have not done that.” At Gadital Chowk, the road has been completely eroded for years and it takes more than an hour to cross it.

Balasaheb Tribhuvan, a resident of Manjiri, said, “We receive tax returns regularly, but the government has not provided basic amenities. No water, no electricity and not even a road in the Manjiri area of Hadapsar. On what basis will we do that? voting is a major concern. PMC sends us tax bills. The selected candidate must become familiar with PMC’s working style.

Neha Kotwal, a housewife, said the biggest problem is waste and pollution in the area. “Garbage pickers do not visit our area regularly. People are forced to throw it on the road. Keshav Nagar area has become too much of a menace; people are forced to dump their waste on the road. Ladki Bahin Yojna is a totally wrong scheme because the domestic materials are too expensive and the prices are increased by the government itself. They have increased the price of the materials and are giving ₹1,500 per month, that is cheating, nothing else. It is like giving with one hand and taking double the other.”

Rahman Shaikh, a shopkeeper, said, “Due to failure of proper drainage chains at many places, drainage water openly flows on the road or collects at points leading to mosquito breeding. Every political party promises to take action, but nothing happens. Yet we are taxed by the government.”

Sunil Suryawanshi, a senior citizen, said, “We will vote for those who are willing to solve our problems. Residents up to the Z corner only receive PMC water. In addition, people are forced to depend on private tankers. private tankers are owned by local politicians; this is also due to delayed PMC water in the area.

Who is fighting in Hadapsar?

Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction has nominated sitting MLA Chetan Tupe to the Hadapsar Assembly seat. He will work with NCP-SP’s Pune City Chief Prashant Jagtap. The Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) has announced Afroz Mulla as its candidate from Hadapsar. Moreover, Maharashtra Muslim Conference (MMC) National Convener Zubair Memon has also announced that he will contest the elections from Hadapsar seat. This Assembly seat has a significant Muslim population, and that could be the deciding factor.
