£8 million worth of cannabis is seized in drug crackdown in Suffolk and Norfolk

According to Suffolk Police, 65% of those arrested have been charged or remanded in custody.

Det Ch Insp Tom Pearse, from Norfolk and Suffolk’s Serious and Organized Crime team, said: ‘I’m often asked what I think success looks like.

‘It puts constant and sustained pressure on these crime groups and makes it as difficult as possible for offenders to succeed here.

“We are seeing great results and this is down to the hard work of our frontline officers, staff and researchers, as well as the vital support from our communities.”

Some of the drug trafficking operations stopped by police involved historic buildings in Norfolk and Suffolk, such as disused/deconsecrated churches – some of which were used as drug factories.

Mark Harrison, head of heritage at Historic England, said: ‘Heritage crime robs us of our collective history.

“Historic England is committed to working with police forces to reduce the number of offenses and educate the wider community about the impact of damage to historic buildings.”
