In the video, the man asks Selena Gomez to say “Jai Shree Ram” for Diwali 2024. Selena looks a little confused but smiles and replies, “Thanks, honey,” instead of repeating the chant. However, the video angered social media users. One of them commented: “I feel ashamed on his behalf!”

The second said: “I am a Hindu and this is shameful.” The second said, “She didn’t even care.” The third said, “Pta nhi kyu india ki beizzati karwa deta he ye log.” The fourth commented: “She’s so nice, don’t use her friendly, polite personality to your advantage.”

Gomez and Blanco publicly confirmed their relationship in December 2023, although they had been together privately for six months before making it official, according to People magazine.
