What is Move? Yellowstone star’s intense new Netflix horror film

Netflix’s logline reads: “Hoping for solace deep in an isolated forest, a grieving woman encounters a stranger who injects her with a paralyzing agent. As the agent slowly takes over his body, he must run, hide, and fight for his life before his entire nervous system shuts down.”

According to Brian Netto, who directed the film with Adam Schindler, this is “the story of a woman who finds herself in a difficult situation, where she hits rock bottom.”

“Suddenly he finds himself dosed with a paralytic drug and his body slowly but surely shuts down. Now he is fighting for his life.”

Almost the opposite of Jason Statham’s iconic Crank action movie The hitman needs to keep his adrenaline levels high to prevent his heart from stopping.

Horror master Raimi, known for the Evil Dead series (as well as the original Spider-Man films), described the script as “a non-stop page-turner… an immersive experience, especially for a thriller.”

“The script wanted our actor to remain motionless for minutes during the movie, and I was afraid. “I was worried that the audience would be restless, but the directors handled it so well that the film became more and more intriguing,” he added.

The film posed an extraordinary challenge for Asbille: If your character’s body is shutting down and you can’t speak, how do you convey her emotions to the audience?

“I really had to rely heavily on (Netto and Schindler), especially when it comes to paralysis and what translates on screen and what doesn’t,” he explained.

“The script lays out the stages of paralysis, but there is an emotional experience and an internal struggle you have to convey, and you are very limited physically. That was the challenge, and it was fun to figure it out together.”

Witrock praised Asbille’s ability to “communicate” her character’s struggle with very little. “Kelsey faced an incredible challenge, like having to express so much with almost no ability to use her body, which is what we often use to express ourselves,” he said.

Is Don’t Move worth watching?

Don’t Move doesn’t have a Rotten Tomatoes score, but it’s received mixed reviews so far.

The Guardian gave this three star reviewargues that while it “doesn’t quite stick the landing… there are enough heartbreaking moments along the way to set this apart from most of the genre nonsense on Netflix.”

Diversity was praised In fact, he notes that Asbille’s performance created such a strong connection with the audience that “it would be fun to watch it in a crowded theater where people tend to shout at the screen.”
