Deadline for the Guernsey cost of living survey extended

The deadline for a survey into the cost of living for Guernsey residents has been extended by three months.

The States of Guernsey said the Household Expenditure Survey was set up to collect information on how much people are spending in shops and online.

The survey will remain open until the end of December and three cash prizes of up to £150 will be available for people who take part, the US said.

Head of data and analytics Helen Walton said more than 600 households had taken part in the survey so far, but the United States had a target of 1,000 it wanted to reach.

Ms Walton said: “As the results will be used to work out the weights that will be used to calculate Guernsey’s inflation indices for the next five years, it is important that the results are accurate.”

The United States says letters are sent to randomly selected addresses before being followed by a visit from a field worker.

People can also volunteer to participate in the study, the United States added.

During the study, people are asked to keep track of everything they buy for two weeks.

One randomly selected person will receive the top prize of £150, with the runners-up winning £100 and third place receiving £50.

The prize draw will take place on January 30, 2025.
