17-year-old charged with robbery and gun possession in New Rochelle

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon after allegedly trying to rob a 66-year-old woman at gunpoint.

The incident happened on Oct. 9 around 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Franklin Avenue.

According to police, the woman reported that the teen approached her, pointed a gun at her and demanded her belongings. She started screaming, causing the boy to flee to the nearby Harbor House grounds.

The woman was not injured.

Police searched the area but were not able to locate the boy until October 17, when he was finally apprehended.
