Man to face trial for alleged money laundering in Laois

A book of evidence has been filed against a man accused of money laundering in Laois.

Jiri Cervenak (32) of 397 Market Mews, Maryborough Village, Portlaoise is charged with money laundering in respect of an amount of €7,007.86 at Permanent TSB, Main Street, Portlaoise on April 8, 2022.

Sergeant Mark Daly testified that he served the evidence book on the suspect Portlaoise Court.

Judge Nicola Andrews said the DPP had agreed to the suspect being referred for trial to the next sittings of the Portlaoise Circuit Court, which starts on October 29. She asked if the suspect needs an interpreter.

Lawyer Philip Meagher said his client was originally from the Czech Republic but spoke perfect English.

Judge Andrews provided legal aid to Mr Meagher and a lawyer. She remanded the defendant on bail, under the same conditions as previously set by the court.
