When it comes to designer wallets, Hermès Birkin bags are considered the crème de la crème. Owning a Birkin is perhaps the ultimate symbol of wealth, and realistically a small group of people can enjoy the luxury of carrying the coveted bag. It’s easy to assume that everything Hermès makes is out of reach. I certainly did – until I discovered it their new fragrance, Barenia. Given Hermès’ reputation, I assume their perfumes cost a pretty penny, but when I saw the price tag of this beautiful scent, my jaw almost hit the floor: the Birkin scented sachet costs less than $200!

2024 was a great year for beauty launches. Somehow the new releases get better and better every month, and October has had some of my favorites. Whether you’re looking for an all-in-one hair tool, a restorative lip mask, or even a powerful wrinkle fighter, you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading to discover (…)

Barenia is the epitome of elegance — from the simplistic bottle to the sophisticated scent inside. I have an extensive perfume collection (over 200 bottles), yet I can confidently say that I have never smelled anything like it. This sensual, captivating scent beautifully balances three earthy facets: floral, fruity and woody. In general, I find that when perfumes are spread across multiple note categories, the end result is a bit clunky and confusing, although that is not the case with Barenia.

This designer fragrance contains four notes: At the top we have the floral whisper of butterfly lily, which has a gingery aroma with a hint of spice. This unique flower is intertwined with the wonder berry, a robust red berry, producing a juicy, delectable brightness. Finally, as the scent dries down, a combination of warm patchouli and oak gives this a radiant warmth that is earthy, musky and grounding.

In general, I am not a fan of designer perfumes. I find most of them smell too pedestrian and have poor longevity. Barenia is the rare diamond – or should I say Birkin Bag – of its kind. I catch the scent of this perfume hours after spritzing. I also haven’t met anyone in my area who wears the perfume regularly, which makes it feel much more exclusive.

Shoppers who have fallen in love with it have discovered a lifelong signature. “This is a lovely, long-lasting scent that will get you compliments everywhere you go,” writes one reviewer. “The undertones of patchouli are so warm and beautiful. This gives me a playful and timeless feeling.”

Even those who are not necessarily fans of perfume will fall in love with this. “I’m not a perfume type, but this one got me hooked,” wrote another Nordstrom shopper. “For me it’s worth every cent. The scent and this perfume are exceptional. The scent lasts all day and still smells fresh and not overpowering.”

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a Birkin, why not start with Hermès Barenia Eau de Parfum? After all, it’s just as luxurious for a fraction of the price. Priced at under $200, the luxurious scent is the perfect price to gift yourself or a loved one ahead of the holidays.

As with skin care and makeup, paying a high price for perfume doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a higher quality product. As a beauty writer with over 200 perfumes in my collection, some of my most complimented and longest lasting scents are under $100. My ultimate goal is to expand my collection of affordable yet high quality fragrances, (…)
