Initial reactions to Venom 3 have divided critics, but most agree it’s Eddie Brock’s hilarious “guilty pleasure” farewell to Tom Hardy.

The first reactions to Venom: The Last Dance have appeared – and critics are divided.

“Venom: The Last Dance is a crazy buddy trip that maxes out its PG-13 rating.” Chris Killian of ComicBook.com – he wrote on Twitter in a post that reflects much of the early critical reaction to the trio. “Simply put, Venom 3 is a classic guilty pleasure movie. Turn off your brain and let #Venom snack on them.”

Digital Spy’s Ian Sandwell wrote: “Venom: The Last Dance is the most entertaining installment of the trilogy. It’s a largely fun and charming journey as Eddie and Venom live out their Thelma and Louise runaway dreams, which include car karaoke and dog rescue. You might even succeed. notice that you get emotional.”

Erik Voss of New Rockstars described The Last Dance as a “very strange, very funny” film and “a crazy journey for sure”. The Wrap’s Drew Taylor noted, “The madness has grown considerably, but so has the heart.”

Others, however, were a bit more unconvinced by Venom: The Last Dance, in which Eddie Brock and his symbiote are on the run and symbiote king Knull waits in the wings.

“It’s basically two movies rolled into one,” wrote Inverse’s Jacob Kleinmann. “One is a fun road trip adventure that will give fans the bromantic comedy they crave. The second is a fine superhero comedy (breathtaking exposition, Macguffins, and soulless CGI monsters) that the studio clearly demanded. The result is a mishmash of a film that works at times, but ultimately feels like the work of someone who didn’t understand why the previous Venom films were good.”

Sean O’Connell of sister site Cinema Blend is also less enthusiastic about The Last Dance. He wrote: “I think #VenomTheLastDance is the best of the three, while also being incredibly bad. He’s weird and watchable because he’s willing to try anything… I laughed a few times, but this trilogy achieved very little.”

Regardless of how audiences react to Venom upon release, it appears Big Bad Knull from “The Last Dance” will return in future films.

“This film introduces Knull, but only touches on the beginning of his story,” said director Kelly Marcel IGN. “We were always aware of Knull, but we knew we had to lay the groundwork for Venom and his relationship with Eddie before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull.”

This, combined with Tom Hardy dodging the question about a Spider-Man crossover, means that The Last Dance may not be so final after all.
