Fox’s Brian Kilmeade takes on the Democratic senator

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade argument with senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) on Monday about vice president Kamala Harris record on crime and why she declined to comment on a California ballot initiative on the ballot this weekend.

“Senator, what do you think about Axios calling her the ‘no comment’ candidate when it comes to this issue in particular, and Prop 36 in California?” Kilmeade asked.

“Well, to me the two candidates’ positions on immigration are crystal clear. Kamala Harris passed a very specific, detailed piece of legislation. That’s the bipartisan border security bill that I negotiated with very conservative Republicans James Lanford that would dramatically increase investment at the border,” Murphy responded, adding:

It would allow the president to close the border if crossings became too high. It would fix our broken asylum system so that, you know, no one is allowed to stay in this country for five or 10 years while their asylum claim is processed. Donald Trump killed that bill, even though it was supported by conservative Republicans and the Border Patrol.

I don’t know anything about the voting questions in California. I live in Connecticut. But I’m just saying this idea that people don’t know what Kamala Harris stands for on immigration is simply not true.

“Well, can I just show you that just on Prop 36 alone, it’s pretty specific. Essentially, they’re going to use tough criminals, stop the punishment, go easy on the criminal, crack down on crime, make shoplifting a crime, increase the penalties for drug crimes, create centers for the sale of certain drugs like fentanyl, heroin and cocaine, make them tougher and require warnings of possible murder charges for selling or supplying drugs. So if you want to get tough on crime, why don’t you just say how you voted there?’ Kilmeade hustle.

“Yes, I heard what she said at the beginning to show that she’s not interested in, you know, weighing in on an election measure in California. She is running for president of the United States. And you know, you can compare the immigration records of the two candidates. There are fewer people crossing the border today than during Donald Trump’s presidency. But you can also compare their crime rates. Crime skyrocketed when Donald Trump was president and at the end of Donald Trump’s presidency we were less safe than we were under Joe Biden,” Murphy said as Kilmeade protested.

“Do you really think you have a strong argument there from the party that defunded you? You’re kidding!’ Kilmeade persisted.

“One hundred percent,” Murphy responded, while Kilmeade suggested that Murphy in no way believes Harris has a better record.

“One hundred percent. But look, but look at the data, right? Crime is down,” the Democrat emphasized.

“We have 20% fewer homicides in the cities,” Murphy continued as Kilmeade interjected, “the FBI has revamped their crime and they are up 4.2%.”

“That’s not true, that’s not true. Urban gun homicides are down 20% in this country. There are 20% fewer mass shootings this year than last year,” Murphy said, while Kilmeade disagreed.

“It is absolutely true that there are few gun homicides in this country and that is uncomfortable, but that is the truth,” Murphy concluded.

“Senator, do you know what the truth is? You have an opportunity to show that you are tough on crime by saying: I supported the ballot measure that demonstrates the folly of the easy-on-crime policy that it was a part of. But she says that’s not up to me,” Kilmeade hit back before continuing.
