2 people rescued, 3 rescuers treated during house fire in Gun Barrel City

GUN BARREL CITY, Texas (KLTV) – Gun Barrel City firefighters rescued two people trapped in a house fire on Monday.

Upon arrival at the 400 block of Masthead Road, the Gun Barrel City Fire Department found the home surrounded by smoke and were told that one person was trapped in a bedroom.

During the rescue operation, they found a second victim in another room. Both were taken to safety and then transferred to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and UT Health East Cedar Creek.

Two firefighters and one Gun Barrel City police officer were also hospitalized at UT Health East Cedar Creek Hospital for smoke inhalation.

“Thanks to the quick actions of firefighters and police officers on scene, a potential loss of life was prevented last evening,” Gun Barrel City Fire Chief Joseph Lindaman said in the release.

The home suffered smoke and water damage, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
