Waco worker rescued after fall at sewage treatment plant

A Waco water department employee was rescued Tuesday morning after he slipped and fell while performing maintenance at the Riverside Water Treatment Plant.

According to a Facebook post from the city of Waco, the man was working about 30 feet underground at the plant at 200 Colcord Ave. when he “slipped and fell.” The post said Waco Fire responded with its technical rescue team and conducted a “closed space rescue” to bring the man back to the surface.

According to the post, firefighters used specialized equipment for safety, including atmospheric monitoring.

“He was safely removed and transported to hospital with minor injuries,” the post read.

There was no other information available as of Tuesday afternoon.

“We are very grateful for the safety of our employee who knew how to handle the situation and for the patience necessary to remain calm and await a safe extraction,” the post read.
