Two minor, orphaned siblings adopted by a Canadian couple

Berhampur: Two smaller orphaned brothers who were rescued by Gajapati administration from the Rayagada area about three years ago, found a new home in Canada.
A couple from Ottawa, both IT specialists, applied to us Central Adoption Resources Office (CARA) three years ago and selected boys aged 6 and 8. The couple comes from India and settled in Canada a few years ago.
CARA is an autonomous and statutory body under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs. After following CARA guidelines and rules, Gajapati collector Bijay Kumar Dash recently handed over the boys to a Canadian couple during a short function. The Collector blessed them for a better future in a foreign land.
Present were representatives of Canada, CARA, Rajendra Kumar Minz, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Arun Kumar Tripathy, as well as staff of the orphanage where the boys were staying.
The boys and their new parents will leave the country after two days. After the boys were rescued by the district authorities in 2021, they were placed in a child care facility in Gumma. After their parents died, they lived with their grandparents for a few days.
Tripathy claims that 58 orphaned children from Gajapati have been adopted in the last six years. “At least five of them were adopted by foreign couples,” the DCPO said.
