Russia ranks third in one-day troop losses in Ukraine: Kiev

Russia has suffered the third largest day of troop losses in Ukraine since Russia began its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said.

The Ministry’s post at X, formerly known as Tweetsays that Russia lost 1,630 personnel as of October 25, for a total of 685,910 Russian soldiers lost since the start of the war.

The Department of Defense post, detailing additional weapons and vehicle losses, was accompanied by the quote: “Miracles grow out of difficulties”, by Jean de la Bruyère.

Newsweek outside office hours contacted the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for comment by email.

The highest number of soldiers Russia has lost in one day was 1,740 on May 12.

The previous second highest number of Russian troops lost was earlier this month 1,530 men in one day.

Russia has lost 7,390 troops in Ukraine since Monday, according to figures from Ukraine’s armed forces.

Russia has also lost 188 artillery systems, 383 UAVs, 176 armored fighting vehicles and more since Monday.

Moscow also experienced rising losses of UAVs and artillery systems over the past month, and these have only fallen over the past month.

In addition to the high losses of Russian troops, artillery losses in Moscow amounted to $8 billion in 2024 alone.

These Russian losses come after the US confirmed that Pyongyang had done so troops sent to Russia after similar reports were made by South Korea and Ukraine.

White House spokesman John Kirby said he believes so 3,000 North Korean soldiers are being trained in Russia, after South Korean intelligence released satellite photos of North Korean soldiers training in Russia’s Far East.

Russian president Vladimir Putin seemed to confirm the presence of North Korean soldiers in Russia, as did he told foreign journalists“Images are serious business; if there are images, they reflect something,” about the South Korean satellite images.

Putin also noted newly signed security treaty between Russia and North Korea, which has a mutual defense clause.

The South Korean spy agency also estimated that North Korea will send there 12,000 soldiers to Russia in December.

The deployment of North Korean soldiers to fight in Ukraine marks the country’s own first foreign war in its history.
