Rudy Giuliani cleared New York apartment of valuables ahead of property surrender deadline – NBC New York

Rudy Giuliani cleared valuables from his Manhattan apartment weeks before a court deadline to surrender his assets as part of a $148 million defamation judgment, according to a letter filed in federal court on Monday.

Lawyers for Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea “Shaye” Moss — the two former Georgia election workers who received the mass judgment — also said in their Manhattan lawsuit that Giuliani and his lawyers have refused to answer basic questions about the location of most of the valuables to which the court order relates.

“That silence is especially outrageous given the revelation that in recent weeks, Defendant apparently took positive steps to move his property out of the New York Apartment, while a restraining order was in effect and while a turnover motion was pending regarding that property .” wrote Aaron Nathan, an attorney for the election workers.

The letter to U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Liman comes after the deadline for the former New York City mayor and legal adviser to Donald Trump to turn in items that passed last week without any assets having changed hands.

Attorneys for the women were granted access to the Upper East Side apartment Thursday to work with a moving company representative to assess transportation and storage needs for the property that would be transferred.

Nathan said in his letter that the home was already “substantially empty” when the group arrived and that they were told that most of the apartment’s contents had been moved out about four weeks earlier.

“Except for a few rugs, a dining table, some loose small pieces of furniture and cheap wall art, and a handful of smaller items such as dishes and stereo equipment, the apartment has been stripped of all its contents,” he wrote.

That, according to Nathan, includes the “vast majority” of valuables known to be stored there, including art, sports memorabilia and expensive furniture.

He said Giuliani’s lawyers have since said some of the property has been moved to a storage facility in Ronkonkoma, about 50 miles east of Manhattan on Long Island.

Nathan said it is not clear what property is stored there as the former mayor’s lawyers did not provide an inventory.

The former New York City mayor, federal prosecutor and legal adviser to Donald Trump has been suspended over 2020 election lies. Gus Rosendale briefs.

Last month, Liman ordered Giuliani to turn over his $5 million apartment, a 1980 Mercedes once owned by movie star Lauren Bacall, and a variety of other assets, from his television to a shirt signed by the New York Yankees legend Joe. DiMaggio up to 26 luxury watches.

Representatives for Giuliani did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment on Monday.

Giuliani’s lawyers have argued — so far without success — that Freeman and Moss should not be allowed to acquire and sell his assets while his appeal is pending in a federal court in Washington.

Both parties are expected to appear before Liman on November 7 if the former mayor’s assets have not been transferred by then.

The $148 million judgment stems from Giuliani’s role in pressuring Trump’s baseless claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.

Giuliani, who has since been suspended in New York and Washington, falsely accused Freeman and Moss of voter fraud, saying they smuggled in ballots in suitcases, counted the ballots multiple times and tampered with voting machines.

Freeman and Moss sued for defamation, saying the false accusations led to death threats that left them fearing for their lives.
