The TTC will close almost 5 kilometers of subways for the entire weekend

For those planning to head to Toronto for Halloween this weekend, please take note of the major TTC subway closures on Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27, 2024.

The TTC announced it will suspend subway service on Line 2 between Victoria Park and Kennedy stations for the entire weekend. It’s the latest in a series of rolling closures this year that the transit agency attributes to “planned track work.”

The Bloor-Danforth section of Line 2 stretches for almost five kilometers and includes Victoria Park, Warden and Kennedy stations on the eastern part of the line.

Throughout the closure, commuters will be transported on shuttle buses, and all three affected subway stations will remain open for customers to purchase/top up Presto fares and tickets and connect to TTC surface routes.

Regular service is scheduled to resume on Monday, October 28 at 6:00

If the affected part of the metro network seems familiar, it may be because the planned closure is the second such day-long outage on this particular section in October alone, following an identical outage on October 12 and 13.

To make matters worse, the impending failure will be followed by another 24-hour closure of this section of Line 2 on November 2 and 3, marking the third entire weekend in which residents in this part of the city will be without subways in one year. -monthly range.

And if that wasn’t enough of a burden for transit users in this part of Toronto, the weekend closures are joined by weekday night closures on this section of track on October 21-25 and again on October 28-31, with service stopping at 11 p.m.

All these closures and service changes are the latest in a seemingly endless string of inconveniences that are testing the patience of Scarborough public transport users to the limit.

The ongoing closures on this section follow the premature closure of Scarborough RT Line 3 last year, and local residents will have to endure years of construction before the Scarborough Subway Extension project completes construction in 2029-30.
