Smile 2 ending spoilers: Is Skye passing on the curse?

The film revisits the brutal curse introduced in the original, in which the target person is possessed by an evil entity and suffers from all sorts of drastic hallucinations before finally committing suicide in front of a witness – who becomes the next victim.

After a brief opening sequence that picks up where the previous film left off, Smile 2 focuses primarily on the recovery of pop superstar Skye Riley (Naomi Riley), who becomes cursed after a particularly gory scene during a visit to a drug dealer (Lukas Gage). .

Soon, Skye will be suffering terribly from the curse, which, apart from anything else, is not good news for the start of her upcoming global tour.

Have you seen the movie and need a recap of the final moments and what it means for the future of the series? Read on for an explanation of the ending of Smile.

Smile 2 ending explained: Is Skye passing on the curse?

For a while, it looks like Skye may have found a way to overcome the curse – thanks to the efforts of a nurse named Morris (Peter Jacobson). He had previously tracked her down and suggested that stopping her heart and then resurrecting her would likely kill the creature as it would be unable to survive without a host.

Skye initially seemed very reluctant to continue this procedure, but when things got out of control – culminating in her mother (Rosemarie DeWitt) being fatally stabbed after an argument at the wellness center where she was staying – she escapes and steals a car, driving to an abandoned pizzeria, what time Morris told her to meet. (The journey itself is not without its difficulties, as the entity impersonates her best friend Gemma – played by Dylan Gelula – and tries to sabotage everything).

At Pizza Hut, Skye follows Morris’ instructions and goes into the freezer to inject herself with a syringe that will stop her heart. He is able to use the syringe even though the creature does everything in its power to stop it… but it does nothing. The entity reveals that it is still hallucinating, and the next thing we know, Skye has woken up on stage at Madison Square Garden, where she is about to perform the first show of her tour.

Looking at the audience, it turns out that her mother is actually still alive, which is why everything that happened in the last few days was a hallucination. Even more dramatically, the entity now takes its true shape and completely possesses Skye, causing her to finally succumb to the curse and end her life.

And what’s the worst about it? The incident was replayed on large screens placed around the arena, meaning it was watched by thousands of spectators. Given what we know about how the curse works and spreads, this is certainly not the case Great news.

“I felt like the scariest thing I could have done was put her on stage, finally being taken over by Smile in front of 20,000 screaming fans,” director Parker Finn said of the ending in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“The question is, will it be broadcast live? How big can it get? It was intoxicating for me. I loved the feeling and power of Smile, and the idea of commenting on a celebrity platform and influencing public opinion. “He potentially pays it forward and the idea of how many people he can reach with his platform and fame.”

So if we get Smile 3, it looks like things will be happening on an even bigger scale…
