25 arrests for shoplifting at Surrey shopping center in one-day ‘Boost and Bust’ sting

Police have recovered more than $6,500 worth of stolen goods, including clothing, sunglasses and perfume

Surrey Mounties say 25 people have been arrested for shoplifting during a one-day “Boost and Bust” in Guildford town centre.

The sting operation on Monday, October 21, involved the Surrey RCMP North Community Response Unit (CRU), Delta Police Patrol Support Team (PST) and shopping center security and loss prevention staff from nine stores in Surrey’s largest shopping centre.

Police recovered more than $6,500 in stolen property, including clothing, sunglasses and perfume, executed three arrest warrants and took one person into custody for violating probation conditions, police said. a Surrey RCMP news story posted on Friday, October 25. Three weapons (knives and pepper spray) were seized.

Recommended charges include theft under $5,000, possession of identification documents and failure to comply with probation.

“We will continue to ensure that our retail spaces in Surrey are safe to work, visit and shop,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Nigel Pronger.

“As the busy holiday shopping season approaches, there will be a strong police presence in and around our shopping centers, both in uniform and in covert operations. Those who choose to commit a crime face a real risk of arrest and subsequent legal consequences for their actions.”

The anti-shoplifting operation “highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, retailers and security personnel in addressing shoplifting and ensuring community safety,” according to a Delta Police press release, and “demonstrates the value of the partnership between Together, Delta Police Department and our police partners in Surrey are increasing our effectiveness to reduce crime in our communities.”
