In his illustrious career spanning over 15 years, Virat Kohli has broken many of Sachin Tendulkar’s records. When it came to scoring 10,000 ODI innings, Tendulkar remained the fastest batsman until Kohli achieved the historic feat against the West Indies in Visakhapatnam in 2018. Master Blaster needed 259 innings to reach the milestone while Kohli achieved it in 205 innings. The 35-year-old six years ago became the fastest batsman to amass 10,000 ODI runs on that day (October 24).

Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten knock of 157 off 129 balls against the West Indies at home. This made him the 12th batsman in history to score over 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. In 2018, Kohli also broke the record of 1000 fastest runs in a calendar year. He needed 11 rounds to cross the four-digit mark.

Propelled by Virat Kohli’s century, India put 320 on the board for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs. Among other Indian batsmen, Ajinkya Rahane showed sublime form and added 73 runs to the scorecard. Given the huge target, it seemed like an easy deal for the Men in Blue.

Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, however, had other plans. The Caribbean duo graced the show in Vishakhapatnam by showcasing their big hitting skills. Hope scored an unbeaten 123 and Hetmyer quickly made 94 as the match eventually ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli scored 11,000 runs in ODIs during the 2019 World Cup match against arch-rivals Pakistan. Sachin Tendulkar needed 276 innings to join the 11K club, but Kohli reached the landmark in 222 innings.

Sachin Tendulkar remains the all-time leading scorer in ODIs with 18,426 runs. He recorded 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries in the 50-over format. Virat Kohli surpassed Tendulkar for the most ODI tons during last year’s World Cup match against New Zealand. He did it at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Kohli needs 21 centuries across all formats of the game to match Tendulkar’s incredible record of 100 international tons. Kohli is currently taking part in the Test series against New Zealand at home.
