India and China begin disengagement of troops in eastern Ladakh after historic truce

Following the historic ceasefire between India and China, disengagement of troops has begun at two friction points in eastern Ladakh – Demchok and Depsang plains. The move follows negotiations to resolve the military standoff that began in 2020. Indian troops are methodically withdrawing equipment, with officials noting that one tent on each side has already been dismantled. On October 21, India announced a major agreement on patrols along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the consensus on restoring stability, while Prime Minister Modi welcomed the agreement during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit.
