Naked man arrested in Braintree after armed bank robbery, reports say

A man who witnesses said was naked was arrested by police after a bank in Braintree was robbed at gunpoint.

The incident began Friday morning when an Eastern Bank employee on Granite Street reported a robbery to Braintree police, according to a police news release.

Several patrol and detective units responded to the scene and were advised that the suspect had crossed the street into the woods near 639 Granite St.

Police said Braintree High School, down the street, was placed on lockdown as a precaution during the search. A perimeter was established with the help of K9 and air power.

Maria Bonfiglioli, a witness, told WCVB she saw a naked man outside her house during this time.

“My dog ​​started barking,” she told the news station. “I look out my front window, there was a man standing completely naked in front of my front door.”

Before 11 a.m., a Braintree officer took the suspect into custody after he left the woodline on West Street, the release said.

At the scene, WCVB reported that they saw a naked man lying on the road wearing a yellow sheet.

The suspect has been arrested and will likely be prosecuted, police said.

“We would like to thank the community and witnesses not only for their understanding, but also for their dedication in assisting police with the investigation,” Braintree police said in the statement. “As always, we appreciate the help of our community members.”

The person’s identity had not been released as of Oct. 26 at 8:45 p.m. The investigation is still ongoing.
