A naked man is taken into custody during an armed bank robbery in Braintree

Braintree police arrested a man Friday morning in connection with a reported armed bank robbery at Eastern Bank at 703 Granite St. across from Braintree High School, according to the Braintree Police.

An Eastern Bank employee at the branch reported that the bank had been robbed at gunpoint around 10:43 a.m., police said in a news release. The employee provided a description of the man, whose name has not been released. Police said witnesses told officers that a suspect matching the description crossed Granite Street and entered the woods near 639 Granite St.

Braintree High School, opposite the bank, was placed exclusion conditions as a precaution. The lockout has now been lifted.

Police said they set up a perimeter and used K9 and air resources to help search. Officers found the man about 15 minutes later and detained him near the woodline on West Street.

Although not mentioned in the police statement, WCVB’s “Sky5” was on scene when the suspect was seen naked and covered in a yellow sheet on the roadway as he was taken into custody.

According to police, the investigation is still ongoing and the man will likely be prosecuted.
