IVERNESS, Fla. (WCJB) -The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) partnered with HCA Florida Citrus Hospital, the Anti-Drug Coalition of Citrus County and the Zero Hour Life Center to hold their annual “Crush the Crisis” event on Saturday afternoon to organize.

Organizers emphasized the importance of properly disposing of prescription medications to prevent unused medications from falling into the wrong hands.

A total of 173.1 pounds of medication was collected during the event.

Officials say if you missed the event, they are still here safe disposal locations available year-round at the CCSO main building in Inverness and the Emergency Operations Center in Lecanto.

The drop boxes provide an anonymous and safe way to dispose of unused medications, so they don’t end up where they don’t belong.
