LMPD is having Drug Take Back Day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – People in Louisville safely got rid of unnecessary medications on Saturday.

LMPD, along with Norton Healthcare, Louisville and area Krogers and the DEA, held National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Locations around the city were open for people to drop off unused or expired pills, liquids, gels and patches.

The event aims to reduce the amount of medicines that are discarded unsafely.

“I know it’s not safe to throw them away. That will eventually end up in the river, and if everyone did that, we don’t know what would happen or how it would affect us,” said Janis Fowler, a participant.

If you missed Saturday’s drop-offs, there are plenty of dumps throughout the year. To find one near you, visit dea.gov/takebackday.
