KPJ Healthcare launches Malaysia’s first academic healthcare system

KPJ Healthcare Berhad (“KPJ Healthcare” or “the Group”) launches the KPJ Academic Health System (“KPJ Health System”), the first of its kind in Malaysia during Day 2 of the Malaysia International Healthcare (“MIH”) Megatrends Conference from 2024.

The KPJ Health System will anchor education and research in hospitals, making them centers of learning and discovery, where practice and innovation go hand in hand. This initiative is closely aligned with the national healthcare agenda and supports Malaysia’s long-term vision for a world-class healthcare system.

The launch event, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, was chaired by Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health Malaysia, together with Chairman of KPJ Healthcare University (“KPJU”) Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, who is also President and Managing Director. of Johor Corporation (“JCorp”) and Chairman of KPJ Healthcare, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Ismail Bin Bakar.

Datuk Syed Mohamed shared his view and said: “We need to rethink and reimagine how healthcare works. It is no longer just about offering treatments; hospitals must evolve beyond mere treatment centers. They must embrace breakthrough solutions such as AI-driven diagnostics and personalized medicine, and shift the focus to preventative care and overall well-being, creating a more sustainable healthcare system.”

The KPJ Health System is designed to improve patient outcomes, promote the continued professional development of healthcare providers, and foster cutting-edge research that addresses current and future healthcare challenges. This is a bold step forward and positions the Group at the forefront of healthcare innovation.

By embracing transformative technologies such as AI, quantum computing and nanomedicine, KPJ Healthcare is setting a new standard for high-quality healthcare services across the country, driving improved patient outcomes and fostering a new generation of highly skilled healthcare professionals. This initiative contributes to the government’s efforts to increase access to advanced treatments, reduce healthcare disparities and support the development of specialist healthcare centers that will focus on complex medical cases, thereby strengthening Malaysia’s healthcare infrastructure is strengthened.

The launch of the KPJ Health System follows an internal soft launch a week earlier, during which key internal stakeholders were introduced to the system’s vision. The KPJ Health System is designed to benefit not only the patients and staff of KPJ Healthcare, but also the broader community through its research-driven approach to healthcare and focus on education. By integrating three essential pillars – heal, educate and discover, the Group is paving the way for future developments in healthcare that will shape the sector in the years to come.
