Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino denies rumors that the Stablecoin issuer is under federal investigation

Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of stablecoin publisher Tether, is suppressing rumors that his company is under investigation by federal agencies.

In a post on the social media platform X, Ardoino addresses a report from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), claiming that authorities are investigating Tether for possible violations of anti-money laundering and sanctions laws.

The WSJ reports that the US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan is investigating whether it is Tether USDT has been used by bad actors to finance illegal activities or launder the proceeds from the criminal acts.

The report also claims that the Treasury Department is considering possibly sanctioning Tether for its “widespread use” of USDT among US-sanctioned entities.

In response to this Ardoino say the WSJ merely recycles long-played stories.

“As we told the WSJ, there is no indication that Tether is under investigation. WSJ regurgitates old sound. Point.”

Ardoino also highlights that Tether routinely works with US authorities to prevent bad actors from using USDT to fund illegal activities.

“At Tether, we regularly and directly work with law enforcement officials to prevent rogue states, terrorists and criminals from abusing USDT.

We would know if we were investigated, as the article falsely claims. On this basis, we can confirm that the allegations in the article are unequivocally false.”
