Helldivers 2 players are craving more World War I weapons after tasting glorious bayonet charges

What weapon could further bring out Helldivers 2’s satirical theme more than the weapons already in the game? How about a World War I-inspired bolt action rifle with a bayonet? Yep, that sounds great, thought developer Arrowhead, and provided the R-2124 Constitution to players for free.

A “reproduction of the old M1903 service rifle used in ancient times, it is quite ineffective in combat, but is used within the Super Earth Armed Forces as a ceremonial rifle,” the weapon’s description reads. “Every citizen will receive one once they turn 16 to encourage community service.”

Any Helldiver taking on this thing this weekend can probably vouch for that ineffectiveness in ranged combat, but at the same time players seem to be enchanted with the rifle’s bayonet, allowing them to encounter Super Earth’s enemies up close . – and stab them. Repeatedly. The only thing missing now is a special charging mechanic that allows players to mount the bayonet, lunge forward, and automatically attack the first enemies they hit for some extra damage.

Many Helldivers 2 players are now longing for more World War I-themed weapons and melee armaments in general – a sword plus pistol would be quite heavy, for example.

There is some debate over the weapon’s perceived power level, as many users believe it to be too weak in ranged combat, even for a meme weapon. As powerful as it is, this bayonet rifle is a perfect addition to your glory Helldivers 2 Death Korps of Krieg Gear.

Either way, it looks like Arrowhead has recaptured some of the magic it lost all year with Helldivers 2: the community seems happy and engaged, there are surprising developments coming, and the seemingly endless cycle of negativity surrounding the game is largely disappeared.
