Shoplifting suspects hit car during ‘lulu’ of a chase: Orange Police Blotter

ORANGE, Ohio

Assisting other agencies, car crash, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident: Harvard Road, I-271, Chagrin Boulevard, Lander Road

Orange police issued an arrest warrant for a Cleveland woman, 23, in connection with an Oct. 13 evening rush hour chase following a shoplifting incident in Woodmere.

Just after 5 p.m., Woodmere police alerted Orange to the theft of $3,000 worth of merchandise Lululemon by three women who were soon found driving a blue 2008 Ford Edge seen heading west on Harvard Road.

With officers in pursuit, the Ford continued toward the northbound ramp of I-271 without heeding police signals to stop. He slowed down and got stuck in the grass for a moment before regaining traction and taking the exit onto eastbound Chagrin Boulevard.

The Edge then sideswiped a Kia Forte in front of Wendy’s restaurant, continued to accelerate and was last seen losing control on Lander Circle, going onto the grass, then regaining control and driving north on Lander after police ended the pursuit .

Police went to the home of the registered owner in Euclid, who said her daughter, with an address in University Circle, had borrowed the car and was out with friends.

Officers checked the driver’s license photo that matched the suspect behind the wheel during the chase, while further investigation is pending.

Simple assault, unlawful restraint: Orange Place

Officers responded to the Drury Inn & Suites after a report of an altercation between a man and a woman at 1:47 a.m. on Oct. 20. The woman told police that she and her boyfriend — who do not live together or have children — were driving back from a bar in Cleveland when an already heated argument turned physical.

Customers at the bar had previously contacted Cleveland police about the situation, which she said worsened in the car, where the two punched each other as she tried to defend herself.

In addition to hitting each other, the woman said her boyfriend grabbed her arm, leaving a bruise as he prevented her from getting out of the car, which she eventually succeeded in, falling out and hitting her elbow on the asphalt scraped outside the hotel.

Police met the man in a hotel room, where he appeared very drunk, and insisted they contact his lawyer. Officers took him into custody and when the woman declined to prosecute him, they said they had enough evidence for the state to file charges on her behalf.

She was also treated by medics for a panic attack and police spoke to the hotel security guard, who said he saw the suspect push the woman into the lobby before running upstairs to his room. He added that he called Orange police at the woman’s request.

Police arrested the suspect at Solon Prison without further incident.

Confirmed hit (stolen firearm): Lander Road

Toledo police notified officers in Orange at 2:19 a.m. on October 15 that they had recovered a special Taurus 856 .38 revolver from one of their streets, which was listed as stolen from the village in 2023.

While Orange police made arrangements to pick up the stolen firearm, officers in Toledo said they would first examine it for any DNA evidence on their end and notify Orange when it was available for pickup.

Theft: Landerweg

Police responded to a home on an undisclosed street in the village on Oct. 14, where a resident reported that two of his political campaign signs, both depicting Donald Trump, had been taken from his front yard between 7 and 7:45 p.m.

Although there were surveillance cameras on or near the property in question, no video footage of the incident was available. The signs were valued at $20 each.
