How can everyone stay up to date?

TULSA, Okla. — The River Parks Authority Closed Lake Zink following low water levels.

Joe Medlin is the organization’s Director of Outdoor Services.

“We can continue to operate the wave park, but that would endanger the people on the lake,” he said.

While kayaking, the water is very shallow and guests could hit a rock, Medlin said.

“Zink Lake is fed by Keystone Lake, so when Keystone Lake releases water, it refills our lake,” Medlin said.

“Keystone last released water on the 14th of this month, so it’s been over a week since it released water.”

Even though the closure was for everyone’s safety, Tulsans noticed a difference.

“I’ve seen all the PR in the news about this amazing place,” Danny Green said. “I come here and there is no water running today.”

Katie Bradley comes to Wave Park almost every day to walk her puppy, Nala.

He said he has noticed a decrease in water levels and the number of people coming since the closure.

“It’s very inconvenient and frustrating when they keep shutting down on an inconsistent schedule,” he said. “Then you never know when it’s going to be open and you can show up and it’s closed.”

Joe Medlin said he is working on updating social media pages and the River Parks website to help keep information flowing.

It also created a new phone number: (918) 918-WAVE, so people can submit their questions and concerns.

“I monitor Keystone dam releases every day and as soon as they are updated, we update there,” he said. “They won’t be draining tomorrow, but we’re even filling the lake to a small level. Without the keystone release, so I believe we’ll be running for a few hours on Saturday.”

Freezing, freezing temperatures
Debris flows from the dam
Maintenance and construction
low water levels
