Two arrested in connection with drug trafficking in downtown Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Two people involved in drug trafficking in Springfield are behind bars Friday morning.

The Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit has conducted several investigations in the wooded areas near Taylor Street, where an increase in alleged drug deals has occurred.

On Wednesday, officers conducted surveillance in that area and arrested 46-year-old Carlos Perez-Morales of Springfield, and 43-year-old Jonathan Rivera of Holyoke for their alleged involvement in the drug operation.

Officers found 200 bags of heroin and several bags and capsules of cocaine.

Nine other people have also been arrested in connection with drug operations in the area.
