Ogden Police School officer arrested on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor

An Ogden Police Department school resource officer has been arrested on several charges, including sexual exploitation of a minor.

Officials said the department learned on Oct. 16 that 55-year-old Colton Johansen had disclosed information to another law enforcement agency that “implied his involvement in criminal contact.”

After learning about the situation, officials opened a criminal case and referred it to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said deputies arrested Johansen Thursday afternoon on several charges, including sexual exploitation of a minor, tampering with evidence and official misconduct.

Details about the investigation have not been released.

Johansen was listed as an inmate at the Davis County Jail.

Ogden Police Department officials said they had also opened an internal investigation into the situation.

“Based on the information currently available, the conduct in question did not occur while Officer Johansen was acting in his capacity as a School Resource Officer,” they said in a statement released Thursday evening.

They said there was enough information in their investigation to warrant Johansen’s termination.

“The Ogden Police Department remains committed to upholding the trust the public places in us,” the statement said. “We are committed to full transparency and ensuring that the community we serve can continue to rely on the professionalism and ethical behavior of its employees.”
