K-9 sniffs out fentanyl during traffic stop in Key Largo

Two Florida men have been charged with trafficking fentanyl after a K-9 alerted officers to narcotics during a traffic stop in Key Largo.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) stated that they conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet sedan on Friday around 5:30 PM for failure to stay in their lane, encountering oncoming traffic and following too closely behind another vehicle.

According to MCSO, K-9 Mako indicated the presence of narcotics during the traffic stop at Mile Marker 106 on US 1, leading officers to discover approximately 4.8 ounces of fentanyl in the car.

Keyonbie Nashamba Humphrey, 43, of Key West, and Shane Jarell Smith, 40, of Homestead, have both been charged with trafficking in fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia.
