Innocent people are in danger because of election lies

DES MOINES, Iowa – (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) There is perhaps no point in modern history when lies, untruths and confusion about voting have been so dangerous to the professionals and volunteers working to advocate for your right to vote and to establish the country. State and federal election security officials have regularly briefed the public as they try to reassure people that — despite what some politicians, talk show hosts and Internet conspiracy theorists claim — the U.S. election process is not rigged.

Dozens of court rulings and congressional and state legislative investigations have refuted claims that widespread fraud influenced the results of the 2020 election. However, distrust of these results has led to threats against election officials across the country.

The FBI has been investigating packages — some containing a mysterious white powder — sent last month to election officials in nearly two dozen states, including Iowa and Nebraska. The FBI has not yet announced any arrests.

According to the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), some of the false information about the US elections comes from foreign actors. CISA issued a new warning on Friday about Russia’s latest attempt to disrupt the voting process.

The Iowa Secretary of State has set up a tip line if anyone has concerns about the election. Find out that information here.

The agency has also compiled a list to counter false views on the electoral process. See that here.
