NDLEA unearths major drug trafficking operations with raids across Nigeria, seizure of opioids and others

  • Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made public their moves against drug trafficking across Nigeria
  • These efforts included the interception of opioids hidden in shoes and hair accessories at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, with drugs destined for the United States, the United Kingdom and Cyprus.
  • Additional raids in Lagos led to significant cannabis recoveries and arrests, with hidden stashes of tramadol, molly and other drugs found in underground warehouses

The medications were destined for the United States, Great Britain and Cyprus.

Exactly 2,118 pills hidden in shoes bound for Cyprus on October 12, plus another 380 tablets were recovered from consignor Okenwa Kelvin Uchenna’s house in Enugu on October 24. In addition, N968,880 cash and a Toyota Avalon cars were seized from the suspect.

Also, NDLEA officers raided the Igbo-Igunuko shrine in Lagos on October 25, seizing 2,760kg of cannabis and arresting two suspects.

Another suspect was arrested the same day with 770kg of cannabis along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

NDLEA Officers also reportedly raided a house in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos on October 25, uncovering a hidden underground stash in the bedroom of suspect Muhammad Warnos Abdullahi.

The stash contained 11,786 pills of various drugs (tramadol, molly, rohypnol and diazepam) and 64 bottles of codeine syrup.

The suspect had attempted to conceal the storage area with an iron slate, rug and padlocked mattress.

NDLEA’s allegation of finding drugs at Senator’s house in Ashiru

In the meantime, Legit.ng reported earlier that the Senator Godswill Akpabio-led Senate has summoned the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEAGeneral Buba Marwa because of an accusation against Senator Oyelola Ashiru.

The Senate took up the matter after a closed session that started at 11:49 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, and ended at 1:25 p.m.
