Man shot twice by Weld County sheriff’s deputy east of Greeley

An armed man was shot and wounded by a Weld County sheriff’s deputy near Greeley on Sunday, according to investigators.

On Sunday around 12:16 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance reported in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Lane in unincorporated Weld County, just east of Greeley, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial District Critical Response Team.

When officers arrived, they found an armed man who investigators said fired his gun while officers were on the scene. They did not say whether the man’s shots were fired at the officers.

A Weld County sheriff’s deputy shot the man — who has not been publicly identified — twice in response, investigators said in the news release.

Paramedics took the man to a hospital and he is expected to survive, investigators said.
